How Does An Indian Say Your Welcome For Thanksgiving? [2008 edition]

Probably with a backhand slap to thee face. However, every year I ponder the thought of the bogusness of how Thanksgiving came about, the more I look at it as a time to reflect on family and how to appreciate the things we have. I got a chance to go volunteer with The Ludacris Foundation again this year for their turkey drive that is feeding around 500 families this Thanksgiving. As hard times often come up in one’s life, it’s important to think about where you want to go and who will help get you there. A friend that I now consider a pretty close one, no longer a ‘bum a##’ (yes, I slid that one in there – who does that?), has helped keep me on track as well as family members that have always been by my side no matter what.

It’s a constant struggle to remind myself just what it is I should be thankful for, but I am thankful nonetheless…

turkey-day2007Sometimes we get reflecting moments from the strangest situations. Yesterday, after the drive was near the end and turkey’s and things had been given out, a man came up and was wanting to know how he could be helped w/ a turkey. He could barely get the words out. I misread the situation, but it was a humbling experience nonetheless. Times are hard and being thankful for what you’ve got and are about to receive is the motto for Thanksgiving 2008 - hell, sometimes it’s the only thing you can hold onto in these trying times.

“Our major focus is youth – at the holiday time we uplift youth by uplifting the family” added Ludacris’ mother Roberta Shields, who is also President of The Ludacris Foundation. “The Foundation helps people year around through our LudaCares Program. We want to do something to help families have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day – It’s a great feeling to sit with your love ones and share the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us. If we add to their blessings in a small way then we have accomplished our goal.”
